Asians are typically super judgemental, especially when it comes to the more traditional side of things such as celebrations, birthdays, weddings, etc.

Which is why it is so difficult for anyone to plan simple and modern weddings these days. Many adults tend to have expectations of how certain things should be done.

They expect a 20-something year old’s wedding to house 1,000 guests, serve the best food from Michelin star restaurants and so forth.

Well, unfortunately for the older generation, old school weddings that are lavish, luxurious and cut-throat are no longer ‘in’. Youths these days prefer something simple and private, which involves only close friends and family, affordable catering that are still yummy, and most importantly; each other. <3

Thaniya Logiswaran married Logiswaran Arumuggam Pillai in early November, 2017. Everything went well during their wedding but apparently there were some guests who weren’t too happy about it.

Thaniya wrote an inspiring (and rather sassy) Facebook post addressing this. She said,

“It’s been 10 days after my Archanai wedding.

“On one side, I have a few friends who acknowledged our move and were inspired by our simple wedding and even wished to do the same for theirs.

“On the other side, I have these people who felt that I am a shame to society because my wedding was on a budget and I’m ‘stingy’. Plus, talks about how bad my wedding breakfast was is still ongoing.

“Basically, people don’t give a shit if a couple’s wedding went well.”

Sad truth is, some people only take notice of flaws in others instead of highlighting the positive aspects.

So, Thanniya has got something to say to these superficial people.

“To the uncles, aunties and society, what do you expect from a couple in their 20s who just started working after their degree, with a car loan, house loan, in the midst buying furniture for a new house, and most importantly repaying PTPTN monthly without fail?

“Please look back to that time in your life and see what you were doing at that age. Probably still being dependent on your parents.”

She emphasised that they wanted to get married using the money they’ve saved up – without having to end up in debt nor end up with zero savings in their bank account.

She adds,

“I don’t get why a couple can’t have their wedding planned as per their wish. People need to know how to differentiate between weddings, a one-day event, and marriage, a life-long commitment.

“Thinking of doing your wedding to please society? They will still complain about the biryani served at your wedding dinner.”

To make matters more ‘blasphemous’, Thaniya and Logiswaran didn’t even have any engagement or pre-wedding photo shoots done.

Whatever people may say, the couple was wise enough to not take unnecessary loans just to please others on their wedding day. After all, the special occasion is held to celebrate the unity of the couple and not for guests (to judge or complain).

Would you actually borrow money just to make that #DreamWedding come true or would you stick to a budget based on your savings? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
