This is very alarming!
According to Free Malaysia Today, a 27-year-old Malaysian man had reportedly tried to enter Australia after flying in from Kuala Lumpur last Thursday (22nd March). However, he was soon arrested by authorities at the Melbourne Airport after the Australian Border Force (ABF) found hundreds of photos and videos of child pornography in his phone and laptop while inspecting his luggage.
The ABF reportedly found more than 900 images and videos in the Malaysian’s possession. Their Commander Investigations Mark Antill told reporters,
“Children are harmed by those who manufacture this abhorrent material, and people who consume child exploitation material provide the market that fuels this vile trade.”
“Through the use of intelligence and targeting techniques our trained officers actively look for people bringing child exploitation material into Australia.”
Currently, the 27-year-old is on remand until 29th June and can face up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to A$180,000 (approx. RM543,500).
Earlier in January, an alarming report revealed that Malaysia has the most number of IP addresses downloading and uploading child porn in the whole of Southeast Asia. In light of this disturbing news, Malaysian authorities have reportedly been working closely with Australian and United Kingdom authorities in efforts to curb the spread of child pornography.
Well, let’s hope the authorities deal with this particular case appropriately so that justice can be served!
