Disclaimer: This incident allegedly took place a day before Khairy Jamaluddin announced that Malaysians are allowed to record their vaccination process.
A Malaysian woman, Hani* (name altered for privacy reasons) reached out to WORLD OF BUZZ to share a recent incident that occurred to a friend of hers when receiving his vaccination at IDCC, Shah Alam.
According to Hani, the incident happened around 3pm on 22 July, specifically at station 2 of the PPV centre.
A friend of Hani messaged her on Instagram to share how her boyfriend, Amir* (name altered for privacy reasons) encountered a medical officer who allegedly took his phone away from him without consent before receiving his vaccination.
Took away his phone
WORLD OF BUZZ reached out to the victim, Amir, and he explained that the medical officer took away his phone without his consent.
“They took my phone to first check my appointment details and to scan. I asked if I could record the process and she said no,” Amir told WORLD OF BUZZ.
The medical officer then took away Amir’s phone, placed it at her table and said “Letak je kat sini” (just put it here).
Once Amir was done receiving his vaccination, the medical officer then allowed him to retrieve his phone.
Unhappy with the incident that happened to Amir, Hani reached out to a friend she knew who’s part of the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).
According to her friend, medical officers are not allowed to touch individuals’ belongings.
“You are only allowed to touch my arm and not my belongings.”
Hani told WORLD OF BUZZ that her intention of sharing this incident is to alert everyone of their rights. She stressed that the medical officers are not allowed to touch anything else but your arms.
“Repeat after me, “You are only allowed to touch my arm and not my belongings.” Also, make sure to stand up for yourself if they insist to take away your phone! They have no right.”
Hani added she had been advised that a police report should be made if such an incident ever happens to anyone else. She also added that the public should not doubt the power of social media.
On 23 July, Khairy Jamaluddin officially announced that Malaysians are allowed to record their vaccination process to avoid any further ’empty syringe’ incidents.
WORLD OF BUZZ has reached out to JKJAV for a statement but has yet to receive a response.
