Covid-19 has reportedly brought about an increase in domestic abuse cases as people dealt with the difficult implications of the pandemic.
Recently, a case that was brought to light is of a man who had allegedly assaulted his wife after she had not allowed him to see his children.
According to a statement issued by the Ampang Jaya Police Department on their Facebook page, the 35-year-old man who was under quarantine had become enraged at being unable to see his children.
He then assaulted his wife at their home in Taman Kosas as a result and has since been arrested.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said that the alleged attack took place at about 4pm on Friday (Oct 8).
“The suspect was angry about not being able to see his four children.”
“The children, aged between eight months and seven years, were placed at a relative’s house while the suspect was under quarantine,” he added.
ACP Mohamad Farouk said the suspect then berated his wife before hitting her with his hands as well as using a wooden stick.
“The 31-year-old victim suffered wounds on her hands as a result of the assault, and is being treated at a nearby hospital,” he said.
Additionally, ACP Mohamad Farouk said that the suspect was arrested on Monday (Oct 11) and tested positive for methamphetamine.
“He has been remanded until Friday (Oct 15),” he said, adding that the couple has been married for eight years.
Hopefully, justice will be served and that the man is adequately punished if found guilty.
