An 81-year-old woman in Sabah had to endure being abused by her son just because she needed a break while massaging him.

The 46-year-old man physically attacked his mother after the latter temporarily stopped massaging him because she was tired.

The matter happened on April 17 in Penampang when the victim just came home from the clinic, and her son asked for a massage. Despite being tired, she reluctantly fulfilled her son’s wish until her hands felt sore. The mum then headed to the kitchen for a drink and a quick break, but the pause did not sit well with the son.

What was supposed to be a short break turned into a verbal argument before it quickly turned physical.

The man punched his mum in the face and kicked her in the abdomen after she fell to the ground.

Due to the continuous pain, the victim contacted the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu and requested an ambulance to take her to the hospital.

The medical officer reported the abuse to the police after noticing there were bruises on the woman’s face and body, and just yesterday (April 24), the unemployed son, Azmi @ Andrew Ghani was charged at the Kota Kinabalu Magistrate Court, where he pleaded guilty to the abuse.

The accused, who was not represented by a lawyer, requested a lighter sentence. However, Prosecuting Officer Inspector Yusdi Basri requested a heavier sentence given that the accused injured his elderly biological mother and stressed that Azmi should be given strict punishment as a lesson for others.

The court was also informed that the accused has a criminal record for a similar case in 2020, as reported by Sin Chew.

Azmi was sentenced to 24 months in jail under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A.
