Loads of people go through financial problems at some point in their lives, but that’s definitely not an excuse to steal from others!

Recently, a 25-year-old man was caught attempting to steal someone’s car. However, the strange part is how he got caught!

According to Harian Metro, the man was reportedly trying to steal a Proton Saga at around 5am on Tuesday (6th February) in Segamat, Johor. He managed to break into the car and turn on the engine and air conditioning before drifting off to sleep.

“The suspect was sleeping in the driver’s seat and snoring loudly. He then woke up when the owner approached the car. The suspect tried to open the door to run away, but since he was in a state of panic, he couldn’t get the door open and was locked in the vehicle,” Segamat District Police Chief superintendent Raub Selamat told the daily.

“Police arrived at the scene a few minutes later and successfully apprehended the suspect. Urine tests also showed that the suspect had Methamphetamine in his system.”

According to the police chief, after further investigation, three Indonesians between 23 and 30 years old were also arrested. These men were reportedly waiting for the primary suspect in a car near the scene of the crime.

The main suspect has since been remanded for 7 days and is being investigated under Section 379A/511 of the Penal Code for attempting to steal a vehicle. Meanwhile, the three Indonesian suspects have been handed over to the Department of Immigration for further action.

We’re glad that appropriate action is being taken against these thieves. Let’s hope they’ve learnt their lesson!
