The Ministry of Health (KKM) has decided that fully vaccinated husbands are allowed to accompany their pregnant wives during childbirth in the delivery room.
Minister of Health Khairy Jamaluddin said he has asked Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah to issue the permit in all government hospitals, reported BERNAMA.
However, he said that husbands who want to accompany their wives to the delivery room would have to undergo a Covid-19 test and be tested negative before being allowed to do so.
“I have asked Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham to allow prospective fathers who are fully vaccinated, have undergone a Covid-19 test and tested negative, to accompany their wives in the maternity ward,” he said in a Twitter post on 27 September.
He made the post in response to a netizen who had requested that fully vaccinated husbands with a negative Covid-19 test result be allowed to into delivery rooms with their wives.
Dr Noor Hisham also responded to the request saying, “Yes will do the needful”.
Previously, government hospitals did not allow husbands to accompany their wives in the delivery room since the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in March 2020.
