The death of Taiwanese actress, Barbie Hsu shocked the world, especially after her cause of death was revealed – an influenza infection contracted during her Chinese New Year trip in Japan.

Before Barbie’s death, Japan-based Chinese content creator, Kiki posted on her Douyin account and reminded everyone to avoid visiting Japan if possible due to the ongoing influenza outbreak, which, according to KiKi is “truly terrifying.”

Kiki posted the video on January 7 this year, less than a month before Barbie’s death but the video is circulating again following the actress’ death to remind everyone of the ongoing situation in Japan.

“Japanese government has issued a red notice. This is the worst flu outbreak in the last 10 years,” Kiki added.

Kiki explained that she recently returned to Japan and it didn’t take her long to get ill and start to develop symptoms of influenza.

“My whole body started to feel sore before I felt a little warm. I checked my temperature and it was 38.3 degree Celcius.”

Kiki said that she experienced body aches and had been taking medication since the day of infection. The outbreak in the country is probably worse than you could imagine as Kiki said,

“9 out of 10 friends of mine are all down with influeza. This is really bad, and truly terrifying.”

“If you can avoid coming to Japan for now, please do so.”

In case you missed it, it was reported that Japan was experiencing a major outbreak of influenza in December 2024, with COVID-19 cases also skyrocketing.

While we are living with the epidemic, it’s important to continue to take necessary precautions so that the virus will not spread.
