Popular Taiwanese actress and host, Barbie Hsu passed away after she was infected with influenza during her Japan trip.

Her demise was initially speculated when the news about the death of a “famous 48-year-old married celebrity” circulated on social media. The circulated post also mentioned that the death involved a celebrity who was famous for the TV Series – Meteor Garden which was a hit during its release in 2001.

Barbie’s family then confirmed the circulating rumours – Barbie had passed away. In a statement through the sister’s manager made by Barbie’s sister, Dee Hsu said,

“Our family went to Japan during the Chinese New Year. My sister (Barbie) was unfortunately down with influenza and she left us forever.”

“I’m so grateful to be her sister. We took care of each other and kept each other company. I will remember her eternally. Together remember forever.”

Barbie did not always keep her Instagram updated, but her last Instagram post was a shared post with her husband – DJ Koo, a South Korean musician.

Barbie debuted in 1994 with her younger sister as members of the group “SOS”. She then switched to hosting and gained worldwide recognition through Meteor Garden in which she played Dong Shanchai.

Barbie’s last movie role was in a Hong Kong film ‘Motorway’ which was released in 2012. She continued to sing and host shows until her demise.
