Parking spots designated for women exist for a specific reason, but a Malaysian woman recently found herself frustrated after witnessing these rules being blatantly ignored.
Hanna shared her experience after spotting several men occupying the ladies’ parking area. She expressed bewilderment at how spaces so clearly marked with pink signage and a ‘high-heel’ logo could still be disregarded.

Ladies’ parking is NOT for men
Expressing her frustration, Hanna questioned why men continue to park in spaces specifically reserved for women. To her, the purpose is self-evident: these spots are intended for women travelling alone or with children.
She also dismissed common excuses, stressing that being accompanied by a wife or daughter does not justify using the space.
In her viral Threads post, Hanna remarked:
“I don’t get why men park in the ladies’ parking! It’s obviously for the ladies! These spots are meant for solo women and those with children. Don’t give the excuse of being with your wife or daughter!”
A matter of safety, not convenience
Hanna went on to remind the public why ladies’ parking was established in the first place. She pointed out that the tragic murder of Canny Ong in 2003 played a significant role in raising awareness regarding women’s safety in car parks. Ong was abducted from a parking facility at Bangsar Shopping Centre before being raped and murdered, a case that shocked the nation and led to more robust safety measures in public spaces.

Raising awareness online
In a brief conversation with WORLD OF BUZZ, Hanna shared that the incident she witnessed took place at a shopping mall in Tebrau, Johor. She also noted that the men were accompanied by their parents at the time.
She also said she decided to share the matter online, believing that raising awareness would have a greater impact than a direct confrontation.
Hanna added that this was not an isolated incident. According to her, she has frequently observed men misusing ladies’ parking spaces, even outside of busy or festive periods.
Through her post, Hanna hopes to encourage the public to respect these designated spots, emphasising that they are designed for safety, not convenience.
“Please help spread the awareness about the ladies’ parking, so that others will be alert on the matter,” Hanna told WORLD OF BUZZ.
Ladies, how do you handle the situation if you see men in the ladies’ parking area?
