Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh’s win at the Oscars has drawn plenty of praise from citizens of various countries. It even caused a rumour to spread that the Prime Minister was going to announce a public holiday in honour of her, however, this was later debunked.
During a press conference a few days ago, Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin said that plans are in motion to induct personalities from the city into a hall of fame.
He said among the proposed inductees is Michelle Yeoh, who won the Best Actress Oscar at the 95th Academy Awards on Monday (March 13) for her starring role in the comedy-fantasy Everything, Everywhere All At Once.
“We congratulate and well done to Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh who for me is an influencer for the city of Ipoh itself because she is not only famous in the region but can bring the name of Ipoh to the international level.”
“We are thinking of setting up a hall of fame, in which we will include her. We are also looking at inducting other famous personalities from Ipoh,” he added.
According to Rumaizi, Yeoh was an unofficial “influencer” for Ipoh and that she would bring in tourism for Ipoh.
“We hope her success will attract more domestic and international tourists to visit our city,” he explained.
