The local Covid-19 task force in the village of Pahandut in Palangkaraya, Indonesia was left perplexed when they dismiss a dangdut mini concert which originally was just a recital of the Qur’anic sura or chapter of Yaasin at a home there last Friday (11 June 2021). As reported by Indonesian news portal iNews, the dangdut mini concert was promptly dismissed when the authorities arrived as it was in clear violation of Covid-19 regulations in the country.
The subdistrict leader of Pahandut, Berlianto said that the dangdut activity hosted by the home owner happened spontaneously even though it was originally meant to be just a recital of the Qur’an among the residents there.
From reciting the Qur’an, those that gather then turned to singing and somehow it all morphed into the residents there singing and dancing dangdut in public. The gathering was in violation of the Covid-19 health protocol enforced by Indonesia as there was no social distancing and the wearing of face masks.
The home owner was then reprimanded for misusing the approval to host a Qur’an recital by somehow turning it into a dangdut dance off. The Covid-19 task force also reminded the home owner to not repeat such acts in the future, especially during this Covid-19 pandemic.
