A tourist from China said she will not return to Malaysia after her unpleasant trip here recently.

In a viral Xiao Hong Shu (RED) post, the traveller expressed her disappointment after facing difficulties due to the lack of Chinese signage and problems understanding English.

The problem started when she wanted to get a ticket to KL Sentral from the airport, which she thought would be cheap.

“I just landed from Chiangmai. It costs me RM55 because it was the express train ticket.”

She could barely understand the ticketing system, so she asked a staff member for help.

Although she was assisted with the payment, she was shocked to find out that the total amount she had to pay was RM110 for two KLIA Ekspres tickets.

“If I had known about the fare beforehand, I would’ve taken an e-hailing ride.”

The tourist also said that she could hardly understand English, and claimed the local accent was difficult for her to grasp.

“I misunderstood, and thought that it was a cheap ticket, but it turned out to be an expensive express route. I’m disappointed that none of the staff at the airport could speak in Mandarin, which was why I couldn’t get my refund.”

The trip disappointed the tourist, so much so that she filed a police report. However, she was informed that it was not something the authorities could address.

“Malaysia, I am not coming back,” she remarked in her post.

“The world doesn’t revolve around you”

Social media users believed that the tourist shouldn’t have pointed fingers at others and should’ve planned her itinerary in advance. Many also told her not to expect everyone to understand her mother tongue.

“Did you seriously make a police report for this?”

“Why must they speak Chinese? I don’t get it. Why do Chinese people expect people around the world to speak Mandarin just for their sake?”

“I’ve never seen any Europeans complaining about Malaysians’ slang.”

“You didn’t plan before your trip, so don’t blame others. If you find it hard to communicate, there is something called the translation app.”
