This movement control order (MCO) has put quite a few people out of jobs, especially those who earn daily payments for labour. However, as demands for groceries go up during this MCO, hypermarkets such as Tesco are on the lookout for more employees!
According to NST, Tesco Malaysia is looking to hire over 600 new workers for the next two months to meet demands due to Covid-19 as well as the upcoming Ramadan and Hari Raya celebrations.
The Tesco Head of People said that the Covid-19 pandemic has been causing a rise in demand for groceries and household products so they would need to hire more people to fulfil the demands.
“At Tesco, we are working around the clock to help ensure families have access to the items they need. To meet the demand, we would like to hire 600 new colleagues to work in our stores for at least the next two months,” he said.
He says that the new employees will be distributed between 60 Tesco stores nationwide and also for their online services.
“We have seen a huge surge of orders via Tesco online since the MCO and we need all the help we can get to serve our customers as best we can.”
He added that with new employees coming in, the old employees will have a chance to take a rest.
Here’s the criteria to apply:
- Malaysians aged 18 to 60, with a minimum qualification of SPM
- People with special needs are also welcome
- No previous experience needed
The vacancies to be filled are Store Associates, Cashiers, Tesco Online Pickers and Customer Delivery Assistants.
“We have received a few applications but we hope more will come join us soon! Interviews will be conducted via telephone so that candidates will not breach the MCO.”
So, if you’re interested to apply, you can email to Recruitment.Operation@tesco.com, or call the Customer Service Hotline at 1300-13-1313. For candidates who do not have access to emails or phones, you can walk in to any Tesco stores near you to fill in the application form!
During these trying times, jobs are hard to come by. It is awesome that Tesco Malaysia is opening up their doors to employ more people!
