An elderly cancer patient is sharing her despair after having been deceived by a bomoh (shaman), causing her to lose everything she had.
According to a report by Berita Harian, this incident took place when the now 62-year-old Che Intan Md Zain was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2011.
Che Intan, who is still battling the disease today, was afraid to go to a hospital at that time, as she was fearful that the procedures would be painful, after having undergone surgery to remove a tumour as well as computerised tomography (CT Scan) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) tests.

The woman lost everything
Coincidentally, a friend introduced her to a bomoh in Titi Gajah, Kedah, which led her to fall for the bomoh’s deception.
“I bathed with 7 types of flowers for 7 days, and was asked to find the hearts of dead lovebirds and the cloth of a person who died on a Tuesday,”
“I believed in the bomoh. Since I was unable to find what was asked, I sold my house and jewellery, and handed over my savings totalling more than RM60,000,”
“Apparently, the bomoh lied to me. At that time, my condition was getting worse until one of my eyes became blurry because the cancer had spread without proper treatment,” she said.

She ultimately lost everything and had to move into her 86-year-old mother’s house.
She hopes her story will prevent others from becoming a victim
Che Intan has since refused to shy away from sharing her story at events for cancer patients in an effort to prevent others from being deceived.
Cancer Survivors Malaysia (CSM) chairperson Zuraini Kamal also shared that Che Intan’s story should be used as a lesson for cancer patients to follow the treatment prescribed by doctors, which includes chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
“Spending money for treatments is not as expensive as what bomohs will ask because many government hospitals use modern treatments that can help cancer patients, and some have even recovered,” she said.
