A hawker aunty has been warming hearts in Singapore for her generosity – twice a month the 65 year-old hawker diligently cuts out self-made coupons to give to the elderly so they can redeem meals at her stall, Cambridge Rd Hong Kong Roast Pork, whenever they need.
Madam Wong Li Er lived in the same neighbourhood for decades, and the community recognises her as a generous woman with a heart of gold.

“I don’t have many skills, neither do I have an education. So I use food to give back to society and the needy. It’s the best I can do.” she said
To her, the simple pleasure of seeing someone else happy upon receiving her coupons is enough of a reward.
“When you see the smile on their faces, it brings me so much happiness. It’s a feeling money can’t buy.”

Though Madam Wong understands the financial as well as the physical strain of running a hawker stall and helping others, she merely brushes it off: “What’s most important is to feel contented inside”
Now this is a role model we ought to see more of around!
Madam Wong’s amazing story of generosity is told in a video by Tiger Beer. Watch the inspiring video below!
