On 12 November, the Ministry of Health announced that in conjunction with World Diabetes Day, buildings in Putrajaya and its surroundings will be showcasing blue lights.

In a tweet, they said that the Light Up Blue @ Putrajaya effort is to show support and appreciation towards nurses and frontliners who continuously take care of diabetes patients. The blue lights will be turned on starting from 12 November till 15 November at 7pm.

Taking to Twitter, Syed Saddiq had a response to it. Here’s what he said.

“This is a good initiative from the Deputy Health Minister to set up the blue lights. If not how else will we be able to show the frontliners our appreciation.”

The deputy minister, Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali actually replied to Syed Saddiq’s tweet with a few thumbs up, however, he deleted it later on.

Many netizens questioned the blue lights and wondered if it was relevant and also if it can help to lessen some of the frontliners’ burdens (eg. financial, emotional).

Many have said that instead of wasting money on these fancy lights, it’s better to give the frontliners more allowance, better pay or even better contract terms.

What do you think about this initiative? Let us know in the comments!
