Malaysia’s safety and security can be questionable sometimes but this doesn’t mean that people can make fun of our country. Yesterday, a Hong Kong celebrity, Grace Lam Nga-Si, arrived in Malaysia and live-streamed her experience on the streets of Bentong, or Bentong Walk to be exact.
The 3-minute long video went viral on social media, but it was the ending that shocked netizens, because at the end, apparently Grace was the victim of snatch theft as her handbag was suddenly snatched by a passerby.
According to Oriental Daily, she said that she had actually taken the precaution to step aside and checked that the surroundings were safe before starting her live-stream. Grace said, “Thankfully my manager and local friends managed to help me catch the thief and I recovered my belongings.”

However, there seems to be a twist to the story, because not long after that she posted on Facebook clarifying that it was a misunderstanding and apparently was done for shooting purposes.
“Thank you for your concern, everyone. What happened at Malaysia yesterday was a misunderstanding. I’m sorry for the incident. If there is anything I’ve done wrong, I apologise.”
This incident drew the ire of netizens, who said that she was purposely creating drama and hurting Malaysia’s reputation. Of course, Malaysians were outraged at that kind of stunt she pulled, especially when the video went viral.
Many netizens demanded her to explain her actions but according to recent searches, her Facebook account has been taken down. Looks like the drama blew back up in her face.
Sinchew reports that the police are also demanding an explanation from her as she had damaged Malaysia’s reputation and may consider barring her from entering Malaysia next time.
Nobody makes fun of our country, but ourselves!
