Getting the timing right is important, especially when checking in or out of your vacation homestays. Early check-in and late check-out can be possible and negotiable with the owner, but it’s not always guaranteed.

In a recent viral video circulating on social media, Twitter user @AsyrafRosli_ shared a thread detailing an incident that occurred to guests at a homestay in Kedah.

The video shows the guests being kicked out by the homestay owner for checking out at 2:40pm instead of the expected 12pm.

However, things got heated as the homestay owners started tossing the guests’ belongings out of the house, making the situation even worse.

In the video, one of the guests wrote a caption saying,

“Yes, I admit we didn’t check out on time. The auntie (the homestay owner) charged us RM100-RM200 extra, and we happily paid it. But she had no right to kick us out like that, treating us like dogs. She even threw our food and belongings.”

The Homestay speaks up, explaining their side of the story.

In the thread, user @AsyrafRosli_ also included an explanation from the homestay owner, clarifying their actions.

The homestay owner responded by explaining that initially, the guests texted to ask if they could check out at 1pm. They replied, informing the guests that the latest checkout time is 1 pm.

They also mentioned,

“At 2.10pm, the cleaner called us to let us know that the guests still hadn’t checked out, and were still wrapped in bath towels.”

The homestay owner’s mother arrived around 2:20 pm and questioned why the guests weren’t ready for checkout, as they were already two hours late. The post mentioned that the guests ignored the mother and continued to walk back and forth in towels.

The additional screenshot further explained how it quickly escalated into a heated argument as the homestay owner’s mother began insisting that the guests needed to check out quickly to prepare the place for the next visitor.

The guests then fought back and were rude to her.

“My mother is an elderly woman, how could they treat her like that? I understand they’ve paid for the late checkout fee, but they need to learn how to respect other people’s businesses. They even told me themselves that they own businesses of their own, so rightfully, they should understand where we’re coming from.”

The homestay owners concluded the post by explaining how the guests checked out at 2:40 pm, leaving them with only 20 minutes to clean the entire house before the next guests arrived for their 3 pm check-in.
