Malaysia’s Health Ministry is keeping a close watch on the Covid-19 situation, especially with rising infections in neighbouring countries like Thailand and Singapore.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said that while Malaysia is currently averaging around 600 cases a week—well below the national alert threshold—the country remains vigilant. No Covid-related deaths have been reported so far this year.

Between May 4 and 10, Thailand logged over 16,600 new cases and six deaths. Singapore saw a jump to 14,200 cases from April 27 to May 3, up from 11,100 the week before, with 133 hospitalisations.

Malaysia’s National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) is actively assessing risks and ensuring readiness for any developments.

From January to May 10, Malaysia recorded 11,727 cases, with the highest numbers seen early in the year. Weekly cases have since declined, stabilising at around 600 in recent weeks.

The public is urged to stay cautious, seek medical attention if symptomatic, and protect vulnerable groups. Vaccination remains strongly recommended for those at higher risk.
