Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba announced today that one million Malaysians would be the first to receive Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine under the National Immunization Program (NIP).
Furthermore, he also announced that front liners and high-risk population groups will be the first group to receive the first phase of vaccination. Members of high-risk groups include non-communicable diseases such as heart, lung and kidney ailments and diabetes.
“The government will provide the vaccines for free, with a target of 80 per cent of the population or 26 million people.”
Adham Baba also mentioned that the second phase will be given to 6.2 million Malaysians, and it will be distributed accordingly.
Additionally, Adham Baba stressed that Malaysia is not yet ready to open up its borders to international tourists as the pandemic is at its peak at the moment.
