As the Olympics is just about a week away, Malaysians are already showing interest in the Paris Games, especially since Malaysia’s official attire has been unveiled.
Following the fiasco, Minister of Youth and Sports Hannah Yeoh has shared her thoughts on Malaysia’s target of winning a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In an interview, Hannah Yeoh promised a fancy RM1 million serviced apartment in Setia Alam to any Malaysian athlete who clinches our 1st ever Olympic gold medal in Paris.
“Winning an Olympic gold medal is a source of pride for Malaysia”
According to Bernama, Hannah mentioned that the Road to Gold (RTG) committee received the offer from property developer Top Residency, to reward the winner.
“We want to encourage the private sector and also Malaysians to support them.”
She explained how sports serves as a unifying force for Malaysia. It’s a platform where athletes encourage the private sector to play their part in rewarding athletes who bring home gold.
“There are many sponsors coming in”
Hannah also mentioned that Senheng’s Chairman, Lim Kim Heng, plans to personally give RM1 million, to be shared between Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik (men’s doubles) and Chen Tang Jie (mixed doubles), if they win gold at the Olympics.
She also said that other sponsors are interested and have already contacted the RTG committee.
These new rewards are on top of the existing Shakam scheme, which gives RM1 million for gold medals, RM300,000 for silver, and RM100,000 for bronze.
