Back in the days when going to live in hotels, most of us would run into the room to check out the bathtub first then the refrigerator. However, we were always warned not to touch any of the food or drinks in it as they normally cost an arm or a leg. The same goes for the in-room dining menu where we could only fantasize about how good the food would taste.
Recently, a person in Singapore who makes TikTok videos by the username @richlife1688 has casually shown us how much it costs to order two bowls of white rice in-room at the Marina Bay Sands. In his caption of the video (which has since been deleted), he says,
“Most expensive bowl of white rice.”
In that video, he included a receipt of the purchase that they had made. It seems that they had ordered two bowls of jasmine white rice with one bowl going for SGD8 (RM24.50) at 1am. The total that they had to pay, including tax, is SGD18.83 (RM58). Well, that is certainly very expensive.
Heading to NTUC Fairprice’s website, we found that a 10KG pack of rice (free 1KG!) in their house brand costs about SGD14.30 (RM43.90).
Looking at MBS’ in-room menu, we noticed that it is separated by timing (11am-11pm, 11pm-6am, etc.) and we realised that the food in the 11pm to 6am slot is more expensive. During the daytime, a bowl of white rice only costs SGD4.50 (RM13.80).
Well, we have known all along that in-room dining is expensive and this really opened our eyes! Have you ever ordered in-room dining before? If so, what did you order? Let us know in the comments!
