After pulling support from the Unity Government to become a ‘third force’ in protest of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi’s dropped charges, it is likely that MUDA may join the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.
This is after PN Deputy Chairman and Gerakan President Datuk Dominic Lau Hoe Chai revealed that PN’s executive committee will discuss MUDA joining the coalition in an upcoming meeting before the Pelangai State Legislative Assembly By-Election’s nomination day.
As reported by Malaysia Gazette, Lau said that he believes MUDA’s participation into the coalition would improve the opposition due to the party’s stance and ideology that’s aligned with PN, which Lau dubs as a coalition with integrity and against corruption.
However, the Gerakan president said that as of right now, there have been no official discussion with MUDA regarding the matter. Lau asserted,
“In my opinion, we welcome MUDA to join PN, not just in the opposition block but as component party, associate or even as ‘Friends of PN’,
“While in Parliament, we have also asserted our acceptance of MUDA as the opposition, just that the discussion was not official and the smile by (MUDA President) Syed Saddiq is considered a positive response by me,”
Lau added that the matter requires discussion by the PN executive committee and they would be bringing the proposal during the upcoming meeting before the Pelangai By-Election.
