On the morning of June 29, it was reported that 2 tourists from China had died after the tour bus they were on skidded and hit a road divider at KM 16.5 of Jalan Turun Genting Highlands Pahang.
In an update by BERNAMA, both of the victims have been identified by the police, they are Zhang Ping, 58, and Wang Shuhong, 49.
PDRM’s investigations also showed that the driver of the tour bus, a 32-year-old man, does not have a driving license.
The Bentong police chief Supt Zaiham Mohd Kahar also revealed that the driver had 27 previous traffic summonses for various offences.
Zaiham added that there was a total of 18 tourists involved, a tour guide, an assistant and the bus driver.
“The bodies of the two victims were taken to Bentong Hospital, along with six injured victims, while 13 other injured victims were taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital.”
In another update by Harian Metro, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has temporarily suspended the operating license of the tour company.
Minister Datuk Tiong King Sing has asked for thorough investigations to be done on this matter.
“I have asked the ministry to start the investigations as soon as possible. If it is found that the tour company has done something wrong, we will be cancelling their license.”
In addition to that, he has also apologised to all of the victims and hopes that no similar incidents will occur in the future.
We hope that the authorities will get to the bottom of this.
