With the nomination process for candidates completed, the 15th General Election (GE15) is now in full swing and the campaigning period is underway up until polling day on 19 November 2022. The nomination day yesterday was not without drama though, as there was a riot that happened in Tenom as well as an anxious moment in Bandar Tun Razak when Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah temporarily lost her Identification Card (IC) before submitting her nomination forms.

While the latter was resolved and Dr Wan Azizah did manage to be nominated as a candidate on time, the same can’t be said about the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Pahang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) for Kemayan, Manolan Mohamad. The former senator, who contested in the same seat during GE14 was rejected by the Election Commission (SPR) from contesting this time around after he brought his old IC instead of his current one for nomination.

As reported by FMT, Manolan’s actual address according to his current IC is in Kemayan but the IC that he brought was his old one and had an address outside of Pahang on it. Given that the details didn’t match and that the address was outside of Pahang, Manolan was rejected from contesting in the Pahang State Election that is running concurrently with G15.

Hence, PH had no other option but to forfeit contesting in Kemayan, leaving the seat being a straight fight between Khaizulnizam Zuidin (Barisan Nasional) and Shapuan Hussin (Perikatan Nasional). Previously, Manolan, an Orang Asli, lost the same seat to Barisan Nasional’s Fadil Osman by 4,618 votes in GE14.

So, what do you guys think of the whole incident? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
