Recently, 2 former prime ministers, Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin were in Melaka for 2 different and separate programmes.
According to Astro Awani, an investigation conducted by Melaka State Health Department had confirmed that no Melaka state election-related events were taking place and those 2 separated programmes were more of a “walkabout”. On 30 October, Najib can be seen mingling around with the residents of Jeti Kampung Hailam, Melaka during lunch, which he said was his vacation whilst observing the fishermen’s jetty, reported Berita Harian.
However, the organizers for both of the programmes were still bound to be compounded for one violation – failure to maintain physical distancing.
Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin took to his Twitter account and shared a statement released by the Ministry of Health (MOH) on the issue. He stated that while there were no gatherings that took place, the standard of procedure (SOP) was clearly violated when the organizers of both of the events failed to ensure the physical distancing of the people that attended the programmes.
Here are the compounds that had been issued,
- PN Melaka, the organizer for the programme attended by Muhyiddin was slapped with a compound of RM20,000.
- An RM4,000 fine was issued to an individual, who is an organizer of an event attended by Najib.
Khairy had also reminded via his Twitter post that no activities, gatherings, nor social events associated with the Melaka state elections will be permitted from 25 October till 27 November.
He also assured the people that the MOH will continue monitoring the compliance of SOPs, especially in Melaka as the election is just around the corner.
As the reported Covid-19 cases have shown a downtrend recently, we would like to remind everyone to keep adhering to the SOPs under any circumstances!
