A farmer’s routine task of spraying herbicide on his farm turned into a fatal tragedy when he accidentally drank poison, mistaking it for mineral water.

The incident involving the 42-year-old local man came to light after police received a report at around 6:47 PM last Thursday in Sungai Air Tawar.

According to Kosmo!, Sabak Bernam District Police Chief, Superintendent Md. Yusof Ahmad, said investigations revealed that the victim had been spraying herbicide around his oil palm plantation the day before.

He said the victim is believed to have accidentally consumed the poison, thinking it was drinking water stored in a mineral water bottle that morning.

“The victim later complained of feeling unwell the same day and sought treatment at a nearby hospital. However, he was later confirmed dead,” he said.

A post-mortem was conducted by a medical officer from the Forensic Department at Sungai Buloh Hospital.
