According to the documents filed by TNB with Bursa Malaysia yesterday (December 26), the base electricity tariff for the fourth regulatory period (RP4) from 2025 to 2027 is 45.62 sen per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

The new tariff is expected to be implemented on July 1, 2025, and the electricity bill is expected to rise. Currently, the base electricity tariff under the third regulatory period (RP3) is 39.45 sen per kilowatt-hour, which has been effective since 2014 and will not change before June 30, 2025.

TNB said the government’s decision to implement the fourth regulatory period demonstrates the government’s commitment to the Incentive-Based Regulation (IBR) framework, as IBR has always been the pillar of sustainability and stability in the electricity supply industry.

“It provides a transparent regulatory framework that promotes cost efficiency and ensures the financial and operational sustainability of the system and the industry,” TNB said in a statement, reported Business Today & 8TV News.

The government recently announced that there will be no increase in electricity prices in Peninsular Malaysia in the first half of next year and said that electricity subsidies for the first half of next year will reach RM2.388 billion.
