Her pet duck was hit by a car

It was reported that the woman’s pet duck went missing that day, and by the time she found it on the street, it had already died after being hit by a car, the South China Morning Post reported.

According to the elderly woman’s neighbour, she had kept the duck as her beloved pet for the past four years after her husband was diagnosed with oesophageal and stomach cancers.

The neighbour added that the woman kept the duck for superstitious reasons, believing it would bring blessings to her sick husband.

The couple’s family life has reportedly been tough, and whenever the woman felt upset, she would often confide in the duck.

The bond between the woman and the duck grew inseparable

It was also reported that some neighbours complained that the duck made the compound messy, but over time, they grew used to it and accepted it as part of the family.

Another neighbour even remarked on how the woman cared for the duck as if it were her own child.

Her deep grief over the duck’s death has since touched many hearts. Meanwhile, the driver responsible for the accident initially fled the scene but was later tracked down by the traffic police. Negotiations over compensation are currently underway.
