A chain collision took place this morning in Johor Bahru, resulting in the death of a motorcyclist who was receiving help from the public.
A viral video by Community Roda Johor – CRJ shows massive traffic congestion at the KM1.6 North-South Expressway near the Kempas Toll caused by an accident that involved multiple vehicles. In an official statement by PDRM in South Johore, Deputy Chief Police Azrul Hisham said the chain collision involved two motorcycles and three cars.
A 23-year-old local man who was riding a Honda motorcycle from Kempas towards the Johor Bahru city centre lost control and fell on the right lane of the expressway.
A 33-year-old local man riding a Yamaha motorcycle and the driver of a Toyota Vios both stopped in the middle and the right lane to assist the rider who had fallen on the ground. Unexpectedly, a Honda driver could not stop in time and hit the Toyota Vios.
Just as both drivers moved their vehicles forward so that the Yamaha rider could aid the Honda rider, suddenly, a Subaru car driven by a Singaporean man failed to brake in time and hit the Honda motorcyclist who was lying on the ground earlier.
The Singaporean also hit the Yamaha motorcyclist, the Toyota Vios car, as well as the Honda car.
The 23-year-old rider died on the spot due to serious injuries. The Yamaha motorcyclist suffered a fractured right foot and has been sent to the Johor Bahru General Hospital for treatment.
The car drivers, however, did not sustain any injuries.
Azrul said PDRM is investigating the accident under Section 41(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1987 (dangerous driving that causes death) and called on road users to be cautious to avoid accidents.
