Dr Akmal Saleh continues to voice out against the viral ham & cheese sandwich issue from KK Mart and this time, the UMNO Youth Chief is asking for everyone’s help to spot fake halal logos.
In a TikTok video last night (January 14), Akmal told Malaysian consumers to get the Verify Halal application which will spot invalid Halal logos. The application is approved by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM).
Akmal said that UMNO Youth has launched a campaign – Make Sure the Halal Logo is Original Before You Buy it (Pastikan Halal Ori, Baru Beli). Here’s how it works.
The public can participate in the campaign by downloading the aforementioned application and if they buy anything with a Halal logo, they can check the validity of the Halal status using the app.
“If it’s not reflected in this application, please report the matter to the UMNO Youth. We will make sure those who use fake halal logos to deceive customers face strict actions,” Akmal said in the video.
“Don’t deceive the Muslims just because you want to promote your products.”
KK Mart will be taking legal action
The ham is made from chicken and the frozen product itself is reported to have a halal certificate. KK Mart, in a statement, revealed that they will take legal action against the vendor for saying they had a Halal certificate when they don’t.
In the meantime, Akmal also told KK Mart that this was their blunder for not checking the validity of the Halal logo, and reminded all vendors in the country to always make sure that the Halal logos are authentic.
What do you think of Akmal’s take on this, and what do you think of UMNO Youth’s initiative?
