Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, released a statement today (7 July) confirming that Defence Minister, Dato Sri Ismail Sabri will be elected as Deputy Prime Minister while still maintaining his Defence Ministery portfolio. The statement mentioned that this appointment will help the PM manage the country’s administration during this time of economical and health crisis.
Adding to the promotion, Dato Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein has been appointed as the Senior Minister of Foreign Affairs. As the Senior Minister, he will be heading the Safety Cluster previously spearheaded by Dato Seri Ismail Sabri. The PM also hopes that Dato Seri Hishammuddin will help him implement the National Recovery Plan.
“These appointments will hopefully increase the Perikatan Nasional government’s ability to face the Covid-19 pandemic, strengthen the unity among parties and strengthen the PN government.”
