While Malaysian badminton sportsman, Datuk Lee Chong Wei, is typically known for his collection of impressive sports titles, our local hero rarely ever shows his soft side in public. Until now.
Last Sunday (10th November), Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei posted a series of wedding photos and penned a heartfelt caption on Instagram for his beloved wife to wish her a happy anniversary.
In a heart-melting post, the national hero shared the adorable tale of how the two fell in love, beginning with how he was too shy to ask for her number, so he took the advice of his friend:
“As dumb as I may be, one of my teammates is dumber. He told me to pluck rose petals to see if she liked me. I said I didn’t have the money. He said pluck shuttlecock feathers.I followed. Baru I tahu shuttlecock [has] 16 feathers.”
Even though it was a slow start for the badminton star’s love life, the two eventually got together, and Chong Wei couldn’t be more grateful:
“I’m the luckiest guy on earth when you agreed to be my wife. People said I’m lucky to have won many titles. But to me, I feel the luckiest to have won your heart.”
As of today, the IG post has garnered over 109,000 likes! Netizens are gushing over how sweet our dear Datuk is:
“No wonder my teh ais was bland today, Dato took all the sweetness and put it in his post…happy anniversary, Dato’ and wife.”
Wishing you and your wife a long, happy marriage, Datuk Lee Chong Wei!
