Chinese New Year is less than 3 weeks away, and malls in Malaysia have started to play CNY songs with hampers and cookies already available for sale. Not only that but many performers have also started to release their CNY songs to embrace the festive season.
Among the “performers” are Deacon Chai, an internet celebrity who was once criticised, and even arrested by the police after cross-dressing as a woman and behaving indecently in public.
Deacon has recently re-emerged on social media but this time, instead of criticisms, he has received major praise from the netizens for his recently-released CNY song, titled 春天有我陪你 (I’ll be there with you in spring).
Deacon released 2 different versions – the original version where he once again cross-dressed as a woman, and another version mostly in Bahasa Melayu, which was released yesterday (January 3). Let’s talk about the latter one, the 1Malaysia version which is also known as Keceriaan Bersama (Happiness Together).
In the music video, Deacon is seen in a casual yellow shirt and he sings in the Malay language while he strolls around the mall and the town in Johor Bahru. We gotta say, it’s rare to see Deacon in a casual outfit, and we’re not the only ones who think so.
In just one day, his music video for Keceriaan Bersama gained more than 20,000 views, and many Malaysians took the opportunity to share their feedback. They had nothing but good words to say about Deacon’s music video.
Some have praised the tune and rhythm of the song which synchronised well with CNY, and others expressed their relief to see Deacon in a regular outfit.
“From MCO until today, this is the Deacon that I like. Finally a different CNY song. Great music video and nice to hear.”
“Nice song, meaningful lyrics. I’m brainwashed. This 1Malaysia version may still do well in the future.”
“It’s a great song, I like it! Thank you for this, just leave the weird sound effects out from the video, and you’re good.”
“I love it, it’s full of CNY vibes!”
“This is perhaps the song with the best CNY vibes. Keep up the good work, and show your talent. Look how good you are when you dress casually!”
“Great song. It’s good to play for the students in primary school, and they can sing together.”
You can watch and listen to Keceriaan Bersama below.
Deacon may have left a bad impression in the past, but this time, he has at least “re-emerged” with a new single that receives positive feedback from the listeners. What do you think of Keceriaan Bersama? Do you think it captures the CNY vibes well?
