A woman working as a caregiver in Malaysia allegedly stole her employer’s belongings. She pawned them for money, all for the sake of paying for a dying friend’s medical treatments after her employer had apparently not paid her wages.

Philanthropist Kuan Chee Heng, more affectionately known as Uncle Kentang, took to his Facebook page to share why he supported the woman.

He wrote, “You are a hero in my heart. No one understood why I supported her. She was treated badly during her work with her employer. The employer never gave her the promised wages as a caregiver. She took some belongings of her employer and pawned them.”

“This was to help a dying friend who has renal failure. It is RM7,000. I asked her why she took the belongings. She told me her wages were not paid. And she needed to help her dying friend.”

She stayed at the job to help her friend

Uncle Kentang went on to explain how the woman had endured mistreatment under the employer, purely out of need for money to help pay for her friend’s medical bills.

“She was treated like a slave in the house, but she kept going because she needed the money to save a friend’s life. I confirmed that the money (from pawning her employer’s belongings) was given to the long-time friend to facilitate his treatments.”

“For that, I salute her and have cared for her for more than 2 years now. No one knows the actual facts. But, to me, she is a hero in my eyes.”
