Update: As of August 25, a TikTok clip shows that DBKL officers have raided the clothing store in Bukit Bintang that organised the viral belly dancing recently. However, at the time of writing, DBKL has yet to issue any official statement on their official social media pages.

In the meantime, the management of the clothing store also reached out to WORLD OF BUZZ to clarify some matters.

“The manager on-site during the event was not aware of the outfit that would be worn by the dancers hired to do a performance. 5 minutes into the performance, the show was halted when the management realised that it was not in accordance to Malaysia’s culture & customs.”

Additionally, the event was conducted in conjunction with the store’s business anniversary celebrations on August 5th, 2023.  The management of the store sincerely apologised for the controversy that the show has stirred up, and will co-operate with the authorities on the matter.

American singer, Akon once sang, “Don’t be shy girl go bananza, Shake ya body like a belly dancer”.,m  To those who are not aware, Belly Dancing is a Middle Eastern dance that emphasises the movement of the hips and torso.

It looks like we don’t have to travel all the way to the Middle East for a belly dance anymore. According to a clip shared by the TikTok page 15minit, 3 belly dancers were spotted dancing outside a store in Bukit Bintang, KL.

Earlier this week, DBKL raided the viral Arabic dessert store outside Lot 10.

With this belly dancing video in Bukit Bintang going viral at the moment, is DBKL bound to get ‘occupied’ again?

In the clip, the belly dancers were performing happily while the crowd passed by and some of them took the time to record the dancers.

At the time of writing (August 24), DBKL has yet to respond to the viral belly dancing clip, and not much information about the event and the dancers was revealed. Regardless, Malaysian netizens are NOT happy about their presence, with some of them wondering how such an event could be greenlit by the relevant organisations.
