The corpse of a woman hugging a dead infant was found at the roadside in Johor yesterday morning (January 7).
In a statement by the police last night, the authorities said they received a report about the discovery of the corpses around 8:15 AM. A team of officers was dispatched to the scene on Jalan Impiana 5, Kulai, where they found the corpses of a woman and an infant, with the umbilical cord still attached.
Investigations revealed that the deceased was an Indonesian woman and no injuries were found on both corpses. The deceased woman was wearing a Sarong and the baby boy was in her arms.
The witness who found the bodies on the grass was an office worker who was walking to work and passed by the area.
Police also said that there were no traces of blood found at the scene or on the corpses. It is suspected that the bodies were cleaned before being left by the roadside. The police cordoned off the area while a forensic team collected evidence.
The matter is now being investigated under Section 316 of the Penal Code – causing death to an unborn child, which could lead to a maximum of 10 years of jail time, including a fine.
The police also urged the public and other witnesses to come forward to assist in the investigation should they have relevant information.
