According to the President of Indonesia, Jokowi Widodo, about 2 million Indonesians seek medical treatment abroad, including in Malaysia.

He said that over 1 million Indonesians came here for medical treatment every year, while 750,000 of them choose Singapore, and others opt for Japan, America, and others.  Due to their options to seek medical treatment abroad, Jokowi said the country experienced a loss of IDR 165 trillion (approximately RM48 million).

He posted this on his Twitter account recently and revealed his support for the development of an international standard hospital.

“Today (March 6), I inaugurate Bandung Hospital’s Mayapada which uses a green theme.”

Jokowi explained and said,

“The presence of a modern hospital will reduce the number of people who seek medical treatment abroad.”

Cheaper and convinced

Many Indonesian netizens agreed that the medical treatment in their country is in need of a major improvement, but those who have visited Malaysia for medical treatment admitted that our country provides a better and more convincing treatment.

“I can tell you those who opt for Singapore and Malaysia for medical treatment is not just because of their facilities, but also because of how the patients are more convinced with the doctors there. This is the truth.”

“Cheaper and better service. My mom was diagnosed with respiratory problems in Indonesia, but the medicine didn’t help. I brought her to Penang but the doctor said my mom was doing just fine.”

“From the testimonies in this tweet, we can conclude that going to Malacca, Penang and Singapore is a better and more convincing option.”

“My old folks at home always go to Kuching, Sarawak for medical treatment because it’s cheaper, better service, a qualified doctor, and better facilities. Most importantly, they get cured every time they visit Malaysia for medical treatment.”

It’s quite surprising to see that our country received a lot of patients from abroad every year, and we’re glad that they got what they sought here in Malaysia. Fellow Malaysians, do you agree with their take on this?
