The death of a Taiwanese senior citizen who fell onto the train tracks at the Pusat Bandar Puchong LRT has sparked an immediate safety overhaul.

In a press conference today (June 4), Anthony Loke said he had ordered Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) to install the safety passenger doors at ALL LRT stations.

“This safety measure is to prevent the repeat of the tragedy involving a Taiwanese man who fell onto the train track yesterday. It is important to prevent that from happening again,” Anthony said.

For the Ampang LRT line, however, there are stations with an old design without safety doors on the platform. Anthony said he had also asked Prasaran to look into the matter immediately.

In the meantime, Anthony mentioned that the comprehensive installation of safety passenger doors would require huge expenses and additional funding from the government. Regardless, Anthony said the ministry has given due consideration and priority to improve passengers’ safety at all stations.

“The incident involving the Taiwanese man was captured on CCTV, so we could see it was an accident. However, we shall let the police investigate further,” Anthony added.

What do you think of this safety overhaul?
