The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has rejected a representation submitted by controversial rapper and filmmaker Namewee in relation to his charge of possessing a prohibited substance, namely Sildenafil, which was allegedly found at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur last year.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurainizatul Farhana Zainal informed the court of the decision during proceedings before Magistrate Atiqah Mohamed @ Mohamad Saim.

Namewee pleaded not guilty to two drug charges

Previously, the accused’s defence counsel, Nur Aminahtul Mardiah Md Nor, had filed a representation requesting that the charge be withdrawn or reduced to a lesser offence.

On 19 January, Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, 43, pleaded not guilty to the charge of possessing 0.78 grammes of Sildenafil in a hotel room on Jalan Conlay at about 4.30 PM on 22 October 2025.

The charge was framed under Section 9(1) of the Poisons Act 1952, which provides for a maximum penalty of a RM50,000 fine, imprisonment for up to five years, or both, upon conviction.

In the same proceedings, he also maintained his not guilty plea to an additional charge of possessing 1.57 grammes of methamphetamine at the same location, time, and date.

That charge is framed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and is punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act, which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000 or imprisonment for up to five years, or both, if convicted.

It was also noted that in October last year, a separate Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Lumpur discharged and acquitted Namewee of earlier drug use charges involving amphetamine, methamphetamine, THC metabolites, and ketamine, as reported by China Press and Utusan.

Namewee was initially charged with drug possession following the death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh Yu-hsin, who was found in a hotel room where he was also present at the time.

The court has fixed 29 May for the next mention of the case.
