A local man has been arrested after a viral video surfaced showing an individual wearing a vest and helmet bearing the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) logo without authorisation. The act is being treated as a serious matter for tarnishing the official image of the PDRM.
According to Subang Jaya District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Fairus Jaafar, authorities were alerted to the footage after it was uploaded and shared on TikTok.

Unauthorised use of police uniforms
The incident is believed to have occurred last Friday (17 April) before the footage began spreading widely across social media platforms.
“Acting on the information received, police detained a local man in his 30s in the USJ area of Subang Jaya, Selangor, to assist with investigations. The suspect has been remanded for further investigation into the case, ” Mohd Fairus stated.

Legal framework and ongoing investigation
In an official statement, Mohd Fairus confirmed that the case is being investigated under several legislative acts:
- Section 89 of the Police Act 1967: For the unauthorised use of police uniforms or equipment
- Section 504 of the Penal Code: For intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of the peace
- Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955: For indecent behaviour in a public place
- Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998: For the improper use of network facilities to upload offensive content
Notably, anyone convicted under Section 89 of the Police Act 1967 may face sentencing under Section 94 of the same Act, which prescribes a fine of up to RM5,000, a prison sentence of up to one year, or both.
The police have advised the public not to speculate on the ongoing case. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the Subang Jaya District Police Headquarters at 03-7862 7222 to assist with the investigation.
