A video has recently gone viral, with netizens raising concerns over the actions of a Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officer who was filmed stepping on a motorcyclist’s head during an arrest.

In the footage, officers are seen confronting the suspect before one of them pulls him off his motorcycle, causing him to fall. The officer is then seen stepping on the man’s head.

Police confirm the officers were on crime prevention patrol

In response to the footage, Kulim Deputy District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Tengku Mohd Faisal Tengku Yeng, stated that the officers were conducting a crime prevention patrol when they attempted to stop the suspect at Jalan Sungai Ular.

“The 29-second video circulating on Facebook depicts an incident involving police officers and a suspect,” he added.

Tengku Mohd Faisal was quoted by Berita Harian as saying that a struggle broke out during the arrest attempt, as the suspect allegedly resisted by kicking a police motorcycle and fleeing recklessly. Moreover, the suspect rode against traffic, endangering other road users.

Officers eventually tracked him down in front of a motorcycle accessories shop on Jalan Tunku Putra and successfully apprehended him shortly after.

Plastic packets allegedly containing ketum found on the suspect

Tengku Mohd Faisal added that an inspection of the motorcycle ridden by the 32-year-old suspect revealed two transparent plastic packets believed to contain boiled ketum leaf water.

The suspect was subsequently taken to the police station for further action. An initial urine screening returned a positive result for methamphetamine.

Consequently, the police have opened investigations under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
