A food chain has announced it will attempt to set a Guinness World Record for serving the most nasi lemak.

In a post on Instagram, the popular Oriental Kopi said the challenge is anything but ordinary, as they aim to take what they call “Malaysia’s pride”, the nasi lemak, to the world stage.

Oriental Kopi takes on challenge to serve the most nasi lemak in 8 hours!

The eatery is set to take on the challenge on Friday (1 May), which we all know is Labour Day, as it tries to break the world record for serving the most nasi lemak in just 8 hours.

They added that they’re aiming to serve 10,000 plates of nasi lemak, calling it a challenge like no other and a chance to show off the country’s food and the spirit shared as a nation.

“In just 8 hours, we’re aiming to serve 10,000 plates of nasi lemak, which is about one plate every two seconds.

“This is more than just an international record, this is a moment for all of us as Malaysians. A chance to show the world who we are, and what we can achieve together,” they wrote.

Oriental Kopi is also calling on Malaysians to show their support, saying that everyone who comes to take part and order a plate will be “part of history”.

“We can’t do this alone. We need all of you. Every plate you support is a sign of love for Malaysia. This time, we’re not competing alone, we are #TeamMalaysia. Let’s prove together that ‘impossible’ can become reality. We do this together. We win together,” they added.

Rewards for customers

Meanwhile, according to their Facebook post, customers stand a chance to receive a free World Record gold coin, a RM2 cash voucher, or even a World Record glass cup with the purchase of one nasi lemak and above.

There will also be a lucky draw where shoppers who buy five boxes of nasi lemak or spend RM60 and above on merchandise will earn one entry and stand a chance to win prizes such as an iPhone 17 Pro (first prize), iPhone 16e (second prize), and Huawei Mate 50 Pro (third prize).

The challenge will be held from 12 PM to 8 PM at IOI City Mall, Putrajaya (West Court).
