A scandal that began with leaked WhatsApp messages has now landed a man and a woman from Melaka in the Syariah High Court, facing charges of attempting to commit adultery.

Muhammad Hairul Ezuan Hamzah and Nur Fadilah Zainal recently went viral after screenshots of their intimate conversation circulated widely on social media.

According to Kosmo!, the pair were charged at the Melaka Syariah High Court with attempting to commit adultery.

The charge stated that both were found attempting to engage in unlawful sexual intercourse with someone who is not their lawful spouse under Islamic law.

After hearing arguments and pleas from both parties, the court imposed a fine of RM5,000 each, or six months’ imprisonment if they fail to pay the fine.

“I have performed the repentance prayer for the sin of adultery, and I take responsibility for Cikgu Fadilah,” said Muhammad Hairul, who has recently become known as “Abang CCTV & Wiring.”

He added that the viral incident had negatively impacted his electrical wiring and CCTV installation business.

“I plead for a light fine because my work has been disrupted. After the news spread, many things were put on hold. I hope Your Honour will reduce the sentence.”

Meanwhile, Nur Fadilah pleaded for a lighter sentence on the grounds that she is the sole provider for her four-year-old son.

“I have full custody of the child, and I also support both my parents in the village. My father has asthma and is unwell, and so is my mother. I promise not to repeat this mistake,” she said tearfully.

The case attracted widespread public attention, particularly after reports emerged that the female teacher involved had been placed on administrative leave due to allegations of an affair with a married man.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek later clarified that the teacher remains employed as a civil servant, pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.
