The majority of us know and love that traditional snack, apom balik, the classic pancake that is usually brimming with crushed peanuts, loads of sugar, butter and sometimes with dollops of corn.

However, this stall in Relau, Penang sells apom balik with a new twist, it comes with lots of modern and unconventional flavours that sounds too delicious to be true!

Known as Apom Balik Triple Q, the stall owner, Zulkefli Lailee has been selling his yummy snacks two years ago and he started experimenting with all sorts of flavours to attract more customers. Mushroom carbonara apom balik, anyone?

His apom balik ranges from sweet to savoury with unusual flavours such as chocolate, strawberry, bananas, pepperoni pizza, beef or chicken floss, gooey cheese, cereal, sambal and many more. At last count, he has 46 different ways to serve his apom balik but Zulkefli is always coming up with new flavours to please his customers.

One of the crowd favourites has got to be the cheese flavour, which is dubbed as “Cheese Meleleh” – that literally translates to overflowing cheese! It’s a pretty accurate description as he does not skimp on his fillings and a bite into the pancake gives you loads of cheese! Just look at those cheese pulls!

There are no shortage of customers queuing up to sample these delectable pancakes and he is kept busy from opening until closing. The stall is so successful that Zulkefli has opened another branch at Lucky Eatery Food Court Centre, opposite the Subterranean Penang International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
