Looking for a high paying job isn’t easy but apparently there’s a rather traditional job that’s offering a pretty good salary because it goes up to more than RM10,000 a month! Sign me up! This job also reportedly has a great salary increase each year, which has attracted many of the younger generation to work in this industry.

Wondering what this awesome job is? It’s none other than being a confinement nanny! Although the usual image of a confinement nanny in your mind would probably be a middle-aged lady, it seems that they are getting younger and younger nowadays. According to Oriental Daily, there has been an increase in the amount of women in their 30s who choose to work as confinement ladies.

If you don’t know what a confinement lady does, well, their main responsibility is to help mothers adjust their bodies back to the pre-pregnancy state after they have given birth and to care for their babies too. So, how much exactly can these confinement nannies earn?

Well, apparently, if you hire a live-in confinement nanny to help out with your postpartum period, it can cost from RM5,000 to RM6,000 per month. However, for those nannies who are popular, they can ask for a salary of up to RM7,000 or more!

Meanwhile, the confinement ladies who are working in Singapore get a better deal as their monthly salaries start from S$3,000 to S$4,500 (RM9,160 to RM13,740). On the other hand, the salary for a confinement lady in Australia is AUD4,500 (RM14,100). Wow, so high pay leh! Confinement centres are gaining popularity too, and while they used to hire mostly older women, younger women are also applying for this position now.

The vice president of one of the confinement centres in Malaysia said, “Usually these younger women would come to my confinement centre to get the necessary training and experience before venturing overseas to get a higher pay. Currently, the trend for going into confinement is rising in other countries such as Singapore and Australia.”

A 34-year-old confinement lady who was interviewed said that she stumbled upon this job when she came back from studying nursing in Taiwan. Apparently, her friend was about to give birth but could not find a suitable confinement lady so she decided to help her friend.

She said that her age has sometimes been a factor when she has new customers as they tend to doubt whether she has the necessary ability and experience. However, she persevered and managed to prove her skills, which built confidence in her clients. She said, “Although I have a nursing background, there is always new things to learn that only experience can teach you such as breastfeeding and giving advice.”

Sounds like a cool job if you love babies! Plus, the salary is even better than a white collar office manager! Would you consider this alternative option if the job market is bleak next year?
