Bak kut teh is a firm favourite among Malaysians and this hearty dish is just the best thing to eat during the rainy season. The piping hot, herbal soup just warms you up! While it is already very much a culinary masterpiece, a restaurant in the Klang Valley has decided to take it to a whole new level by adding cheese to this dish. Say what?

The little stall is located in Setapak, on the first floor of a wet market. Known as B.A.J Restaurant, it appears that this unassuming restaurant has been serving their special concoction of cheese bak kut teh since early this year, so if you are bored of the usual cheese offerings around, try this out! Cheese has always been a crowd favourite!

Before you go thinking that herbal soup mixed with cheese would make a rather weird combination, the stall actually incorporates melty cheese into the dry version of bak kut teh, not the soupy one. Just imagine the gooey cheese mixing together with the slightly spicy sauce that you get in the dry bak kut teh. Cheese pulling for days!

You can wrap the cheese around your pork pieces, just like how you’d normally eat them in those Korean restaurants that looks absolutely delicious! Best of all, the price is quite affordable as it is only RM13 per single serving of the cheese bak kut teh

That’s not all the restaurant serves; they also have a variety of Chinese and Western dishes, which all comes in at very affordable prices. A few recommended dishes to choose are the Cheese Chicken Chop, Salted Egg Chicken Chop with Spaghetti, steamed fish and many more.

Of course, while it undoubtedly looks delicious, some netizens who saw the mix were slightly dubious about the taste. Most of them were keen to try it out (and so are some of the more gutsy WOB writers! 😉 ) but there were a few commenters who disagreed, saying that the authentic taste of bak kut teh should not be mixed with anything else. What do you think?

If you’re interested to find out for yourself, here’s where they’re located.
