Mention Boracay and the first thing that comes to mind is white sandy beaches under the sun and partayyy! But of course, what better way to enjoy an island than when the sun is out? What most travellers don’t realise, however, is that Boracay has its perks during the Habagat season too.

Haba-whaet?!

In short, the Habagat season is the Southwest Monsoon that takes place between June and November. It usually brings about hot and humid weather, frequent rainfall and strong winds from the West.

Doesn’t sound like the best weather to enjoy an island holiday, kan? Well, that’s why you have us to prove to you otherwise. Don’t lah be a katak di bawah tempurung, and learn why you should be planning your next holiday to Boracay during the Habagat.

1. Contrary to popular belief, the beautiful island is pretty sunny after all

In spite of what the weather forecasts might say, one thing that’s predictable about weather is its unpredictability. If you think it’s only going to be rain showers all day err day, then you are wrong! It actually gets pretty sunny on most days – so don’t religiously believe the weather forecast too much. It’s called a forecast for a reason!

2. The never-ending nightlife

For all the party animals and low-key alco- those who enjoy a drink or two from time to time, Boracay’s nightlife is thriving with pubs and bars along the beach strip. If you’re up for a challenge, head on down to Cocomanga’s Shooter Bar and try their famous ‘Still Standing After 15’ Challenge to earn points for your country! Malaysia represent!

Fun fact: The challenge started way back in the ’90s and as of today, has over 160 countries on the scoreboard!

3. Take windsurfing and kiteboarding to the next level

The high tides and strong winds make for a great chance to amp up these extreme water sports. You’ll be able to fly at a higher altitude and enjoy the amazing view of the island from waaaaaay up. Just make sure it’s still safe to go out because you don’t want to end up actually flying away.

4. You get to enjoy your vacation without it being flooded by other tourists

The number one problem people really have with travelling to Boracay is the amount of tourists, especially during peak season. Flights are packed to the brim and the picturesque island is full of people in every nook and cranny; they’re just everywhere!

If you’re not a people person or would just like to get away from the hustle and bustle of crowds, this would be the best time for you to plan your next trip. Enjoy the leisures of the island life without the usual crowd of flocking tourists everywhere.

5. You get to explore more for less

Due to it being the island’s ‘down time’, you’ll find that many of the shops, activities and entertainment venues will offer a price slash of sometimes up to 25 per cent the original price. You would be able to enjoy more activities for a lower price than during the island’s peak season.

“Quality sure worse one” is what you may be thinking, but the one thing that Filipinos pride themselves in is their hospitality. You’ll be getting the same quality of attentiveness, if not even more so because of the slow crowds.

6. You get great deals for a great holiday

If you need a getaway but your bank account says, “Where? To the front garden ah?”, then this would probably be the best time to plan one. Accommodation can be easily acquired for cheaper rates (some as low as RM63 a night!) and the flight deals are just the same.
