Face-reading experts believe the shape of your face can reveal basic personality traits and determine your overall approach to life.

‘Your face is saying something,’ expert Jean Haner, author of The Wisdom Of Your Face, told Cosmopolitan. ‘You’re born with with features you have for a reason. The face is a map of your personality as well as your whole life.’

Although many people don’t have a distinct face shape as it could be a mix of oval and diamond-shaped, some do have one that is instantly recognisable.

Ms Haner reveals what your face shape says about you, based on her studies in 3,000-year-old face reading derived from Chinese medicine.

1. Diamond Face Shape

American Singer Taylor Swift, 25, Has A Diamond-Shaped Face, Which Is Characterised By Being Pointed Towards The Forehead And Chin But Wide In The Middle

Singer Taylor Swift, 25, have this common face shape. It is characterised by being pointed towards the forehead and chin but wide in the middle.

This refers to someone who likes to take control and wants things a certain way. They’re also very detail-oriented and because of that, they produce quality work.

This is someone who can be very precise with their words and communicates well. That said, they can also be sharp with their words too, if you cross them the wrong way.

2. Oval Shape Face

34-Year-Old American Hit Maker Beyonce's Oval Face Means It Is Longer Than Wide And She Has A Jaw That Is Narrower Than Her Cheekbones

An oval face is longer than wide, with a jaw that is narrower than the at the cheekbones.

This person always knows all the right things to say, so they can make someone feel welcome and comfortable. That said, sometimes they can be too focused on saying all the right things.

These people are usually practical, methodical and overachievers in their careers.

3. Triangle Face Shape

London-Born Tv Personality Kelly Osbourne, 30, Has A Triangle-Shaped Face. This Means The Face Is Narrower At The Forehead But Wide At The Jawline

.A triangle face shape is characterized by being narrower at the forehead but wide at the jawline.

Men and women with these faces tend to be artistic, creative and sensitive but also fiery.

‘This shape means you usually want to be in charge,’ said Ms Haner. ‘And the more narrow your forehead is at toward the top of the person’s head, the more they have to be in control.’

She said people with triangle face shapes are usually ‘very successful’.

4. Square Face Shape

American Actress Mena Suvari, 36, Has A Square Face Shape, Which Is Characterised By A Wide Hair And Jaw Line

The square shape is when you have wide hair line and a similarly wide jawline.

Men and women with square faces tend to possess a sharp wit and analytical mind. It typically refers to someone who is really gung-ho and into taking on huge projects because they have so much stamina.

5. Heart Face Shape

A Heart Face Shape Is Characterised By A Wide Forehead And Narrow Chin. Actress Reese Witherspoon, 39, Has This Shape

A heart face shape is characterised by a wide forehead and narrow chin.

Both actress Reese Witherspoon, 39, and reality star Khloe Kardashian, 31, have this shape.

‘It speaks to someone who has incredible inner strength but can also be stubborn because they are so strong-minded,’ said Ms Haner. ‘They’re like little energizer bunnies. But their strength is not from stamina, it’s about inner power.’

Other common personality traits include being ‘pushy’, having ‘a strong intuition’ and being ‘very creative’.

6. Rectangle Face Shape

American Actress Lucy Liu, 46, Has A Rectangle Face Shape, Which Is Squared Off At The Forehead And Chin

This shape is squared off at the forehead and chin.

People with this type of face shape value logic and are really good thinkers, but they often overthink.

They’re usually planners in some way and don’t often talk about their feelings. However, they do work out regularly — they have to work off inner tension that results from constantly living in their own heads.

7. Round Face Shape

A round face shape is characterized by a wide hairline and fullness below the cheekbones. This face shape typically means you’re a people person who is very giving and kind, and always puts people first.

The downside to this is that you can tend to put people first too much and then you don’t get what you need from the relationship. This type of mentality can attract narcissistic people, but you can change that by realizing you’re an over-giver and not always make others the priority over yourself.
